The Incontrovertible Certainty of His Deity

“And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life” (1 John 5:20).

Many assume that if they had physically seen the Lord Jesus while He walked the earth, they would have immediately recognised Him and believed in Him. Yet, the Scriptures reveal a different reality. Those who saw Him face to face did not automatically accept Him as the Son of God. The Pharisees, Sadducees, and scribes witnessed His ministry, heard His teachings, and saw His miracles, but many still rejected His identity as Jesus Christ the True God.

The prophet Isaiah had already foretold this reality, declaring, “…he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him” (Isaiah 53:2). The Lord Jesus did not come with outward appearances that forced people to acknowledge His deity. Instead, faith required spiritual understanding and revelation.

This truth became evident during His arrest. Judas had to identify Jesus to the officers with a sign because His appearance did not visibly distinguish Him from His disciples (Matthew 26:48-49). Though His ministry impacted multitudes, His outward appearance alone did not reveal that He was Jesus Christ the True God.

The Jewish leaders also insisted they did not know His origin and therefore rejected His message (John 9:29). Even after witnessing the miracle of the man born blind, they chose unbelief instead of truth. The healed man testified boldly about what Jesus had done, but they responded with contempt and refused to believe (John 9:30-34).

Nevertheless, none of these reactions changed His identity. Jesus was and remains the Son of God, eternal life manifested in human flesh. He was God’s love revealed to humanity. Even His own relatives struggled to believe in Him initially, for the Bible says, “For neither did his brethren believe in him” (John 7:5).

Still, Jesus Christ the True God remains unchanged. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. He is the True Light that gives light to all men. His deity is immutable, undeniable, and eternal. He is exactly who He declared Himself to be: the Christ, the true God, and eternal life. When you know Him through divine revelation, your faith becomes strong, your conviction becomes steadfast, and your life becomes a testimony of His lordship.

Prayer / Confession

Dear Father, thank you for unveiling Christ to my heart by your Spirit. My conviction is established in the truth of who the Lord Jesus is, and I walk in the certainty of His lordship and divine identity. My faith is strengthened, my understanding is enlightened, and I live as a bold witness of this reality, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
