“He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love” (1 John 4:8).
In this God Is Love devotional, we learn that Jesus Christ is the perfect expression of God’s love. Through His life, teachings, healing and sacrifice, God revealed His love to humanity in a visible and powerful way.
Many people have their own definition of love because the word “love” existed even before Jesus came. People used it in their daily language. It was not created when Jesus arrived. Even in the Greek expression, “agape,” which is translated as love, it was already a known word. People used it in their conversations, so they already had their own understanding of love.
However, the Lord Jesus Christ is the true definition of God’s love. He was the visible manifestation and expression of the love of God when He walked on the earth. The Bible says that God is love, and that love was revealed to us through Jesus Christ in human flesh. Everywhere Jesus went, He demonstrated God’s love by touching, teaching and transforming lives.
When Jesus entered the temple and preached, it was God’s love preaching. When He healed the sick, it was God’s love healing people. Even when He made whips and overturned the tables of the money changers in the temple, it was still God’s love in manifestation.
Make no mistake about it, human definitions can never determine what God’s love truly is. Jesus Christ was God’s love revealed to humanity in the flesh. John 1:14 says:
“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
Fully God and fully man, Jesus embodied everything love represents. Therefore, to know love, you must know the Lord Jesus Christ. To understand love, you must see it through Him. He is the perfect and complete revelation of God’s love to humanity.
As believers, we are called to walk in the consciousness of God’s love every day. God’s love is not only something we receive; it is also something we express to others through our words, actions and lifestyle.
When we follow Jesus Christ, our lives become reflections of His love, bringing healing, righteousness and transformation to the world around us.
Dear Father, I thank You for revealing Your love to me in Christ Jesus. I walk in the consciousness of Your love, expressing it with wisdom, truth and power. My life reflects the love of Christ in action, bringing healing, righteousness and transformation to my world, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
